AC WINES is a family winery that has restored an old 13th-century winery house and the historic brands of the Angulo family, committing to artisanal methods and natural wines that have won over the best restaurants in Spain.
The firm, also known as Sucesores de Gerónimo de Angulo, is the result of the dream of María Cuquerella and Gerónimo de Angulo, a married couple who decided to revitalise a historic winery and recover the wine brands that belonged to Gerónimo's ancestors. The winery building, known as San Juan, was built in 1855 and is located between the Plaza de las Siete Revueltas and Calle Fariñas (where the winery has its entrance), right in the heart of the Barrio Bajo of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
The project, which began in 2022, is a tribute to the family's winemaking heritage, which dates back to the 18th century. History of AC WINES: the resurgence of a winery house
The history of this winery is the story of a family that has been linked to the world of wine in Sanlúcar for 8 generations. Gerónimo de Angulo is a descendant of a long winemaking tradition, and together with his wife María Cuquerella, he decided to recover the old family firm, Sucesores de Gerónimo de Angulo, which had been extinct for decades. The project began with the restoration of the winery building on Calle Siete Revueltas and the search for old casks and soleras that would allow them to make wines with the character of yesteryear. Their goal was not only to produce wine, but to revive a part of their heritage and offer authentic wines that respect and celebrate the traditions of Sanlúcar.
The wines of AC WINES: craftsmanship and tradition
The winery's philosophy is based on absolute respect for traditional methods. Its wines are aged and matured by hand in century-old American oak casks, following the ancient procedures of Sanlúcar's wineries. The racking is done "by jug and canoe", and the wines are bottled en rama, directly from the cask to the bottle, without filters or industrial treatments. All its wines have an average ageing of at least seven years, which gives them great structure and complexity.
Among its most outstanding brands are:
- Manzanilla Minuto: Its most emblematic manzanilla, aged under a continuous layer of flor. The label recovers the original design registered in 1892, in honour of the bullfighter Enrique Vargas "Minuto".
- Manzanilla Pasada La Celada: A manzanilla with a longer ageing that gives it greater complexity and notes of nuts. Its brand dates back to 1910.
- Oloroso Corsario: A serious and deep oloroso, with notes of nuts and great persistence. The original label is from 1900.
- Amontillado Divisa: Completes its range of fortified wines, offering a more structured alternative with an elegant oxidative profile.
The Winery: a historic 19th-century building in the heart of the Barrio Bajo
The winery building of AC WINES was built in 1855 between Calle Fariñas and Plaza de las Siete Revueltas, a privileged location for the ageing of manzanillas. Located in the oldest part of the Barrio Bajo of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, right at the foot of its "barranca", it is in the heart of the historic winery axis Regina-Fariñas / Carmen Viejo-Alcoba / Bolsa-Trasbolsa, the area where the city's best fortified wines have traditionally been aged.
The building is preserved exactly as it was in the 19th century: tarifa flagstones in its streets and albero in its floors, materials that form part of the identity of Sanlúcar's wineries. The century-old casks it houses rest on stone bases of ostionera stone and are protected by high wooden ceilings that help maintain a stable temperature throughout the year.
The characteristics of this winery and its special location allow an optimal development of the flor veil, achieving a perpetual biological ageing that does not lose its vigour even on the hottest days of summer or the coldest days of winter. This stability is the key for its wines to develop a unique quality, keeping intact the aromas and saline character that define the manzanilla of Sanlúcar.
A high-level recognition: Manzanilla Minuto at the UN
A milestone that speaks of the prestige and exceptional quality of these wines is that its Manzanilla Minuto was selected to be served at the UN State Dinner held in Seville in 2025. Chef Juanlu Fernández, with two Michelin stars, chose this manzanilla to accompany the dinner cocktail, at which around 30 bottles were served to 150 world leaders. This recognition places the small Sanlúcar winery on the map of the most exclusive wines coveted by haute cuisine.
