🏛️ There are places in Seville that are much more than somewhere to eat. Casa Aníbal is one of them. Located in a 1914 building signed by Aníbal González, the same architect as the Plaza de España, this establishment combines the elegance of regionalist architecture with current, carefully prepared Andalusian cuisine full of flavour.
Since its opening in 2021, it has become a benchmark of Sevillian gastronomy, with a proposal that respects tradition but allows personal twists.
At The Sun Places, where luxury is defined by authenticity, we want to invite you to discover this unique space where history and good food go hand in hand. Stay with us in our portfolio of Luxury Apartment Rental in Seville and live the experience.
The restaurant occupies an emblematic building at 22 Reyes Católicos Street, next to the Triana Bridge, the Lonja del Barranco Market and just a few minutes from the historic centre.
Built in 1914 as the headquarters of the Sevillian Charity Association, the building preserves the essence of Sevillian modernism: elegant lines, noble materials and careful details that transport you to another era.
On its façade, a large Winged Victory inspired by those Aníbal González designed for the Plaza de América welcomes visitors, a nod to the legacy of the architect who gives this project its name.
📜 A building with history: Aníbal González and the Sevillian Charity Association
The building that today houses this space was built in 1914 by Aníbal González as the headquarters of the Sevillian Charity Association, a charitable institution founded in the early 20th century with the aim of ending begging in the city. For decades, this place was the heart of pioneering social work in Spain, and its architecture reflects the importance of the institution that drove it.
The exposed brick façade, ceramic finishes and ironwork form a fully recognisable ensemble within the regionalist style that marked Seville's identity in the first third of the 20th century. After years closed, the building reopened its doors in 2021 as a restaurant and hospitality school, giving new use to a space full of history.
The figure of Aníbal González is essential to understanding contemporary Seville. As we tell you in our article about the 150th anniversary of his birth, this Sevillian architect transformed the city for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, creating his own style that combined Mudejar tradition with the elegance of the Renaissance. This project is one more example of his genius, a building that, more than a century later, still beats with its own life.
🏢 Grupo Batuta: the guardians of Seville's classics
Behind this project is Grupo Batuta, one of the most important restaurant and leisure companies in Seville. Founded in 1997 and led by businessman Rafael Cebolla together with his brothers, the group has more than 300 employees and manages more than 20 establishments in the city and Andalusia.
Batuta's philosophy is clear: acquire and preserve Seville's emblematic venues, keeping their original essence intact. The idea is that "the public notices no change" when a classic business passes into the group's hands, respecting the menu, service and philosophy of the establishment. That commitment to authenticity is what has made Batuta a benchmark of Sevillian hospitality, capable of keeping the classics alive while projecting them into the future.
Among the establishments managed by the group are authentic city institutions such as La Casa del Estanque, Mariatrifulca, Maquiavelo, Eslava, Blanca Paloma, the Antigua Bodeguita de El Salvador and the Bodega Díaz Salazar. Each of them preserves its personality, but all share the seal of quality and respect for tradition that defines Batuta.
🍽️ The cuisine: Andalusian tradition with a current eye
The gastronomic proposal of this restaurant is based on current Andalusian cuisine, with a special prominence of the grill and a clear commitment to carefully prepared, seasonal produce. The menu changes with the seasons, adapting to what the market offers at each moment. Among the dishes that have marked its identity are:
- Glass of gazpacho: perfect for whetting the appetite in the hot months
- Prawn and regañá ensaladilla: a classic reinterpreted with produce from Huelva
- Seared scallop with roasted apple purée and Iberian pork jowl veil: one of those preparations that turn a meal into a special occasion
- Oxtail croquettes on egg yolk and soy: recognisable recipes with careful technique
- Almadraba tuna cachopo with cecina, Payoyo cheese and smoked mayonnaise: a proposal that sums up the philosophy of the house
- PapaAníbal: chocolate cream, homemade brownie, salted toffee foam and chocolate crisps
The wine cellar has more than 80 references from the main national denominations of origin, a selection designed to pair each dish and complete the experience.
🍷 La Bodega: the most informal tapas on the ground floor
In 2025, the space expanded its offering with the opening of La Bodega, a corner on the ground floor designed for informal, relaxed tapas. With high tables, stools and an enlarged bar, this place recovers the spirit of traditional Sevillian taverns but with a contemporary touch. The menu includes tapas such as Iberian pork sirloin with whisky, oxtail croquettes, the anchovy gilda, patatas bravas with homemade tomato sauce or the mini mollete of shredded meat and aged cheese. There is also room for traditional stews and top-quality charcuterie.
🏆 The award that recognises its tradition: winner of the semi-final of the National Salmorejo Competition
In September 2026, this establishment was proclaimed winner of the first semi-final of the I National Cordoban Salmorejo Competition, held at Auténtica Premium Food at FIBES Seville. Chef Carlos Benítez's proposal opted to recover traditional mortar preparation, respecting timings and working textures manually. This return to origin, which connects with the imagery of grandmother's cooking, was what won over the jury and made it the first qualifier for the grand final to be held at Fitur 2027.
