2026 Repsol Guide Suns Gala

2026 Repsol Guide Suns Gala

At THE SUN PLACES we want to tell you everything you need to know about this great night and, especially, about the Seville restaurant that has managed to put the city's name at the top: Kinu Sevilla.

📍Where and how was the 2026 Repsol Guide Suns Gala held?

The 2026 Repsol Guide Suns Gala was held at the Tarragona Fair and Congress Palace, in an event organised in collaboration with the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Tarragona Provincial Council. The night featured a luxurious institutional presence, with the attendance of the Minister of Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper, and the president of Repsol, Antonio Brufau.

The event, which brought together nearly 150 chefs, including new award winners and veterans with Three Suns, was hosted by the charismatic duo formed by Lorena Castell and Jorge Ponce, drawing laughter from the audience with their rapport with the chefs.

The choice of Tarragona was no coincidence: the gala coincides with Catalonia's distinction as the World Region of Gastronomy, an endorsement of the excellent moment Catalan cuisine is experiencing and which served as the perfect setting for the awards ceremony.

👑 Who is the jury and what does the Repsol Guide award?

The Repsol Guide is one of the most important gastronomic references in Spain and Portugal. Its Suns recognise the quality, creativity and culinary honesty of restaurants. But how is it decided who deserves this prestigious award?

María Ritter, director of the Repsol Guide, explained it during the gala: "The Repsol Guide has its radar on all year round for restaurants that mix intelligence and intuition and proactively seeks them out across the territory so that its clients can continue trying new things."

The jury is made up of a committee of experts and sector professionals who travel throughout the territory all year round evaluating establishments. It's not just about the quality of the food, but the complete experience: the service, the wine cellar, the coherence of the project and that spark that makes a restaurant special.

What does each 2026 Repsol Sun mean?

One Sun: You would recommend the restaurant to a friend and you're already thinking about returning. It rewards product quality and honest cooking.

Two Suns: Great kitchen management and proposals that stand out for their maturity.

Three Suns: The maximum excellence, the best restaurants in Spain and Portugal.

📊 The numbers of the 2026 Repsol Guide Suns Gala

The 2026 edition has been historic in terms of recognition. Here are the key data:

  • Total Distinction in Spain

The new Three Suns 2026: the pinnacle of gastronomy

The highest distinction of the night went to three restaurants that represent the diversity and excellence of Spanish cuisine:

  • Tafona (A Coruña): Lucía Freitas's proposal distils Atlantic flavour and takes pride in the Galician soul, with a modern vision that integrates female producers and artisans as a fundamental part of the project.
  • Ramón Freixa Atelier (Madrid): After a hiatus due to relocation, Ramón Freixa regains the Three Suns at his gastronomic Atelier, where at a counter for only ten diners he seeks the climax through an exclusive experience.
  • Voro (Mallorca): The chef from Jaén, Álvaro Salazar, deploys in Capdepera a Mediterranean mosaic filtered through his Andalusian memory, creatively squeezing the characteristics of each product.

🌟 Andalusia sweeps: nine new Suns and 77 award-winning restaurants

The Andalusian community was one of the big winners of the night at the 2026 Repsol Guide Suns Gala, adding nine new Suns and reaching a total of 77 award-winning restaurants: 60 with One Sun, 14 with Two Suns and 3 with Three Suns.

Catalonia (122) and the Community of Madrid (98) are the only regions that surpass Andalusia in number of Suns, consolidating our land as the third gastronomic power in Spain.

🥈 The new Andalusian Two Suns

Two Andalusian restaurants have made the leap to the 2026 Repsol Two Suns category:

  • Mesón Sabor Andaluz (Alcalá del Valle, Cádiz): A family restaurant located in the Sierra de Cádiz that elevates humble products with emotional cooking deeply rooted in traditional recipes.
  • Vandelvira (Baeza, Jaén): Located in the Jaén town, this restaurant places vegetables and the province's environment at the centre of a menu rooted in the land, enhancing the purest flavours.

🥇 The new Andalusian One Suns (including Kinu)

A total of seven Andalusian restaurants debut with the 2026 Repsol One Sun:

  • Mare (Cádiz)
  • La Carboná (Jerez de la Frontera)
  • Kinu Sevilla
  • Back (Marbella)
  • Promesa (Málaga)
  • Blossom (Málaga)
  • Tragatá (Málaga)

Gastronomy trends at the 2026 Repsol Suns Gala

🍷 2026 gastronomic trends proposed at the 2026 Repsol Guide Suns Gala according to Repsol Guide director María Ritter, who revealed the main trends that will mark the year:

Fusion between Spanish regions: International fusion is waning while dialogue between Spanish territories increases. Restaurants like 'Cervus' (Tarragona) combine Catalonia with Andalusia, or 'Troqué' (Adeje) links the Canary Islands with the Basque Country.

Short and dynamic menus: Extensive tasting menus are giving way to more agile and affordable proposals that allow following the season in detail.

Rising counters: Sitting at a counter provides a front-row seat to the spectacle of cooking live. Kinu is the best example in Seville.

Young chefs: More than thirty young female and male chefs join this year with sustainable, creative and future-filled proposals. The president of Repsol, Antonio Brufau, highlighted that "this mix of veteran and youth is one of our greatest riches".

Vegetables as protagonists: Vegetables worked as a main course have become stars of the menus.

Artisanal processes: Return to traditional preparations, such as making their own cured meats.

Unstoppable embers: Embers have made the leap from traditional grills to urban kitchens and continue to grow.
