The legendary El Campero de Barbate now has a home in Madrid.
Located in a restored mansion in The Salamanca District, the temple of red tuna from the almadraba opens its doors in the capital with the same menu, the same chef and the same essence that earned it two Repsol Suns.
🐟 At The Sun Places we know that luxury also moves and adapts to big cities. That's why we invite you to discover El Campero de Madrid, the long-awaited opening of the legendary restaurant from Cádiz that has arrived in the capital to revolutionise the gastronomic scene.
After decades of success in Barbate, the "temple of red tuna" opens its doors in an exclusive mansion in the Salamanca District, fulfilling the dream of thousands of Madrilenians who spend their summers on the Coast of Light.
The news has caused a real revolution, with a waiting list of more than 3,400 reservations in the first few weeks and a flood of positive reviews confirming that the essence of El Campero de Madrid is the same as that of its parent house.
And to experience this in all its splendour, The Sun Places offers you our Luxury Apartments in Madrid.
The landing of El Campero de Madrid comes from Azotea Grupo, which acquired the original business in 2025 with a firm commitment to preserve its identity and prestige.
The objective was clear: to keep the philosophy and quality of the Cádiz restaurant intact, but offering an experience adapted to the cosmopolitan and demanding public of the capital. And the result could not have been more successful.
In just a few weeks, El Campero de Madrid has become one of the most talked-about openings of the year, attracting foodies, critics and celebrities looking for the authentic taste of wild red tuna.
At the helm of the gastronomic proposal remains Julio Vázquez, executive chef of El Campero since 2017, who leads the culinary direction both in Barbate and at the new Madrid location.
📍 Where is El Campero de Madrid located?
El Campero de Madrid is located in a privileged location: a restored 19th-century mansion at 148 Lagasca Street, on the corner of María de Molina Street, in the heart of the exclusive Salamanca District.
The area, one of the most sought-after in the capital, is perfect for a restaurant of this calibre. The building, which once housed the Quinta Marqués de la Concordia and even a sanatorium, has been completely renovated by MIL Studios, which has reinterpreted the luminous and Atlantic essence of Barbate in an urban and sophisticated setting.
The total space of El Campero de Madrid exceeds 900 square metres, with around 700 square metres of interior space and 200 square metres of outdoor garden.
The capacity is approximately 200 diners, spread over several floors, dining rooms and a terrace that is expected to become one of the trendiest spots on Madrid's summer nights.
The decoration, "raw" and tactile in style, is inspired by the cutting of the tuna and connects perfectly with the gastronomic philosophy of the house.
🍽️ What do you eat at El Campero de Madrid and what is its price?
The menu at El Campero de Madrid is essentially the same as that which made Restaurante El Campero de Barbate famous, with a harmonious blend of tradition and avant-garde.
Wild red tuna from the almadraba remains the star, and it can be enjoyed in a wide variety of preparations ranging from raw dishes to traditional stews, as well as grilled or barbecued dishes.
Among the most popular dishes, maintaining the tradition of Barbate, are:
- palate carpaccio with lime and basil sorbet
- sashimi trilogy (loin, tarantelo and ventresca)
The average bill at El Campero de Madrid is slightly higher than in Barbate, around €70-90 per person, a very competitive price for the quality and experience it offers.
The main difference on the menu is the inclusion of three additional meat dishes, designed to adapt to business meals and the more diverse public of the capital. Otherwise, the essence and quality are exactly the same.

✨ Key differences between El Campero de Madrid and El Campero de Barbate
Although the philosophy and gastronomic proposal are identical, there are some notable differences between El Campero de Madrid and its parent house in Barbate, which are worth highlighting:
- Location and environment: While Barbate is a fishing village with a fishing atmosphere, Madrid is a large European capital. El Campero de Madrid is located in a restored mansion in one of the most exclusive areas of the city, offering a much more sophisticated and elegant setting.
- Space and capacity: The Madrid venue is much larger, with more than 900 square metres and capacity for 200 diners, while El Campero de Barbate is smaller and more intimate.
- Decoration: The interior design of Madrid, by MIL Studios, is much more elaborate and conceptual, inspired by the cutting of the tuna. The one in Barbate is simpler and more familiar.
- Menu: The basis is the same, but in Madrid three meat dishes have been added to broaden the offering and adapt to a more varied public.
- Price: The average bill in Madrid is slightly higher, due to higher operating and rental costs in the capital.
- Service: In Madrid, the staff is more numerous (around 65 people) and the service is more formal, while in Barbate the treatment is more familiar and close.
Despite these differences, the essence, quality of the product and respect for the almadraba tradition are identical in both establishments. Whether you visit El Campero de Madrid or the original in Barbate, the gastronomic experience will be unforgettable.
✨ Your perfect plan: dinner at El Campero and night in the Salamanca District
- Afterwards, book a table at El Campero de Madrid and let yourself be seduced by its tuna and truffle toast, its palate carpaccio and its incredible ventresca
- Finish the night with a drink at one of the neighbourhood's trendy cocktail bars, such as those in Callejón de Jorge Juan
