The Poster for the Seville Spring Festivals 2026: A journey to childhood and tradition

At THE SUN PLACES we want to tell you all the details of this unique poster, which brings together in one scene the city's two great celebrations: Holy Week and the April Fair. Because there is no better way to experience Seville than by knowing the history and emotion behind its most emblematic traditions.

Who is the artist who created the Poster for the Seville Spring Festivals 2026?

👨‍🎨 The author: Dani Franca, a painter with Sevillian roots

The person responsible for bringing the Poster for the Seville Spring Festivals 2026 to life is the Sevillian painter Dani Franca, an artist with a solid career and a deep connection to the brotherhood and religious poster art of the city.

Franca, born in Seville in 1985, holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, specialising in painting. Throughout his career he has received important recognition, such as the first National Painting Prize of the Ateneo de Sevilla in 2008.

His career as a poster artist is impressive. He has created the posters for Holy Week in Ronda (2012), the Glories of Seville (2012), Holy Week in Cádiz (2023) and, the most significant to date, the poster for Holy Week in Seville 2023, which depicted a "levantá" (the lifting) of the Virgen de la Estrella and was exhibited alongside all his religious-themed work in a show in Seville.

🎨 The design: A child, a patio and the first heartbeats of tradition

The Poster for the Seville Spring Festivals 2026 presents a deeply intimate scene, yet at the same time universal for any Sevillian. In the work, Dani Franca himself appears as a child, playing at being a nazarene in the patio of his grandmother's house.

The elements that make up the scene are full of symbolism:

  • A cardboard hood (capirote), handcrafted for a child's game
  • A cloth turned into a cape, evoking the desire to take part in the processions
  • A ball hidden behind a flowerpot, speaking to us of those games that were not just games, but the first contacts with Sevillian traditions

The mayor José Luis Sanz, during the presentation in the Colón Hall, highlighted that it is a scene in which many can recognise themselves, quoting the verses of Antonio Machado: "My childhood are memories of a patio in Seville".

One of the great successes of the poster is its ability to unite in a single image the two great celebrations of the Sevillian spring. Elements such as the wicker chair or the flowers scattered in the patio refer to the April Fair, establishing a natural visual dialogue between Holy Week and the festival that fills the Real de Los Remedios with joy weeks later.

The Poster for the Seville Spring Festivals 2025 was created by Taller Daroal, by the artists Francisco Rovira and David Romero, and was presented on 10 February 2025 in the Colón Hall at the City Hall. The work is inspired by the legendary sevillana by Manuel Pareja-Obregón "Sevilla tiene una cosa", and its central element is a flamenco guitar surrounded by swallows, carnations, the Giralda, the Triana Bridge and the crown of thorns of the Gran Poder. Its typography pays homage to the historic posters by Juan Manuel Sánchez (1925) and Ramón Monsalves (1943).

📅 When are the Seville Spring Festivals 2026?

The Seville Spring Festivals encompass two major celebrations that mark the city's calendar:

Holy Week 2026

Holy Week 2026 in Seville, declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, is the first great event of the Sevillian spring. In 2026, the dates of this deeply rooted celebration vary each year according to the lunar calendar, but traditionally it takes place between March and April, serving as the perfect prelude to the upcoming festival.

Seville April Fair 2026

The Seville April Fair 2026 will be held from Tuesday 21st to Sunday 26th April, maintaining the short six-day format reintroduced in 2025 after a public consultation.

The prelude to the festival will take place on Monday 20th April with the traditional "Noche del Pescaíto" (Fried Fish Night), which will lead to the long-awaited "Alumbrado" (Lighting) of the Fairgrounds. That moment, when thousands of lights are switched on at the gateway and along the streets of the fairground, officially marks the start of the most joyful week in the Sevillian capital.

The only local holiday during the Fair will be Wednesday 22nd April (Miércoles de Feria), a key day to enjoy the atmosphere in the marquees without the weekend crowds. The closing will take place on Sunday 26th at midnight with a grand fireworks display by the Guadalquivir River, one of the most emotional and anticipated moments.

🌍 What do the Spring Festivals represent for Seville?

The Seville Spring Festivals are the cultural and emotional heart of Seville. They represent the identity of a city that for weeks immerses itself in its traditions, its streets and its squares to celebrate what is its own.

Origin and history

Holy Week has roots stretching back to the Middle Ages, although its current configuration, with the brotherhoods and confraternities processing towards the Cathedral, took shape over the 16th and 17th centuries. It is a celebration of faith, art and tradition that mobilises thousands of nazarenes and costaleros (float bearers), and attracts millions of visitors from around the world.

The April Fair, for its part, was born in 1847 as a decree by Queen Isabella II to establish a three-day livestock fair. What began as a commercial event, where livestock dealers met to close their deals and later celebrated with dances and songs, transformed over the years into a full expression of Seville's song and dance, becoming the city's most important cultural and leisure event.

The poster as emotional heritage

The Poster for the Seville Spring Festivals 2026 takes on a special dimension in this context. It is not just an announcement; it is a work of art that becomes part of the city's emotional heritage. As Mayor Sanz pointed out, Franca has transformed his memories into something that all Sevillians can feel as their own.

The work invites reflection on how traditions are passed down from generation to generation, on those first childhood games that, unknowingly, are sowing the seed of love for Holy Week and the Fair.
