🎛️ Sónar 2026 will celebrate its 32nd edition from 17 to 20 June 2026, and is expected to bring together more than 120,000 attendees from 80 countries. The festival, which was born in 1994 as a small electronic music gathering, has established itself as the world reference for sound and digital creativity.
In this edition, Sónar will deploy more than ten stages divided into two major venues: Sónar by Day at Fira Montjuïc (next to Plaça d'Espanya) and Sónar by Night at Fira Gran Via L'Hospitalet.
The 2026 line-up includes names such as Aphex Twin, Chemical Brothers, Peggy Gou, Bicep, Floating Points, and the long-awaited performance of Kraftwerk in 3D format. In addition, Sónar+D, the creativity and technology congress, will bring together experts from Google, MIT and NASA to discuss artificial intelligence, the metaverse and sustainability.
The festival maintains its commitment to innovation and sustainability, with reusable cups and 100% renewable energy.

📍 Where is Sónar located?
Sónar is divided into two large venues. Sónar by Day is held at Fira Montjuïc, located on Avenida Reina Maria Cristina, next to Plaça d'Espanya and the Magic Fountain.
This location is perfect for combining the festival with a visit to iconic places such as Las Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter or the Picasso Museum.
Sónar by Night moves to Fira Gran Via, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, just 15 minutes by metro from Plaça Catalunya (line L9S).
The venue has large outdoor spaces and covered stages with the best acoustics in the world.
If you stay with The Sun Places in the El Born neighbourhood or near La Sagrada Familia, you will reach either venue in less than 25 minutes by public transport. In addition, the festival has shuttle buses between the two venues and an exclusive taxi service at the exit.
📜 History of Sónar
The history of Sónar begins in 1994, when a group of electronic music lovers decided to create a small festival in the centre of Barcelona.
The first edition was held at the Palau de la Virreina and the Sala Apolo, with barely 7,000 attendees. That pioneering project, organised by Ricard Robles, Enric Palau and Sergio Caballero, already pointed towards innovation: it combined concerts, DJ sets and a music technology fair.
In 1995, Sónar introduced Sónar by Day at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) and Sónar by Night in different nightclubs in the city.
The success was immediate, and by 1998 the festival already attracted 30,000 attendees. In 2002, Sónar moved to Fira Montjuïc and Fira Gran Via, where it has grown to become a global event with editions in Reykjavik, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Tokyo and Stockholm.
In 2026, the festival celebrates its 32nd edition with an eye on the future: artificial intelligence, virtual reality and immersive experiences will be the protagonists of Sónar+D.
🧑💼 Who organises Sónar?
Sónar is organised by the Catalan company Advanced Music S.L., led by its three founders: Ricard Robles, Enric Palau and Sergio Caballero.
The organisation is known for its independence, its commitment to the avant-garde and its ability to discover new talent before they become global stars.
In addition, Sónar has the support of Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, which recognise the festival as a major economic and cultural driver.
In 2026, the organisation has implemented a facial recognition system to speed up access, an app with augmented reality to explore the stages and an artistic residency programme for emerging creators.
Sónar also collaborates with universities and research centres around the world, such as the MIT Media Lab and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
🌟 What Sónar represents for Barcelona, Catalonia and The Sun Places
Sónar is much more than an electronic music festival: it is a cultural phenomenon that projects Barcelona as the world capital of digital creativity and innovation.
According to a study by Pompeu Fabra University, Sónar generates an economic impact of more than 80 million euros in the city, attracting professionals from technology, design and music from around the world.
For The Sun Places, Sónar represents the perfect opportunity to offer our guests a luxury experience that combines the best music, the most avant-garde art and the most exclusive gastronomy. 🍽️ Gastronomy and special features of Sónar
Sónar is famous for its top-level gastronomic offering. At Sónar by Day, you will find a food truck area with signature street food proposals, such as wagyu burgers, cochinita pibil tacos, Venezuelan arepas and Neapolitan pizzas. There are also sushi, ceviche and vegetarian food stalls.
At Sónar by Night, the Sónar Village space hosts a selection of Barcelona's best restaurants, with guest chefs offering haute cuisine tasting menus at popular prices.
A curiosity: the festival has an agreement with the World Gastronomy Summit 2026, so you can taste dishes created by Michelin-starred chefs. In addition, Sónar is a pioneer in sustainability: all cups are reusable with a €2 deposit, 90% of waste is recycled and single-use plastic has been eliminated.
Another special feature is Sónar+D, which includes talks, workshops and exhibitions on artificial intelligence, robotics and digital art. There is also a virtual reality space where you can immerse yourself in immersive worlds created by international artists.
