🐷 There are events that transcend gastronomy. The Aracena Ham Fair is one of them. Over two weekends in October, the town in Huelva becomes the world capital of Iberian ham, attracting thousands of visitors who arrive ready to discover why the ham from the Sierra is unique.
The 2026 edition, the twenty-ninth, served to present the poster for the Aracena Ham Fair 2027, a work that pays tribute to tradition and the land.
At The Sun Places, where luxury is defined by authenticity and connection with the territory, we want to invite you to discover the history, the protagonists and the secrets of a fair that is celebrating three decades while looking to the future.
🎨 The 2027 poster: Luis Orquín and the gaze of a local artist
The Poster for the Aracena Ham Fair 2027 bears the signature of Luis Orquín Domínguez, a painter linked to the Sierra who wanted to capture the soul of the region in his work. The presentation took place within the framework of the Ham Gala, the central event that every year brings together authorities, industry businessmen and Iberian ham lovers at the Teatro Sierra de Aracena.
Although the specific details of the design have not yet been revealed, the choice of a local artist to announce such a significant edition —the thirtieth— underlines the deeply rooted character of this fair, which has always looked to its land to project itself to the world.
Orquín's work joins a long tradition of posters that have announced the fair throughout its almost three decades of history.
In 2026, the poster was the work of the Aracena painter Lola Romero, and in previous editions other creators have participated who have known how to capture the essence of ham, the dehesa and the mountain culture.
📜 History of the Aracena Ham Fair: from 1967 to the thirtieth edition
The history of this fair is the history of a vocation. The first antecedent dates back to 1967, when Aracena held the first Ham Exaltation Festival, an initiative that had a second edition in 1970 but which did not achieve continuity.
It was not until 1996 that the project finally took shape. That year, the mayor Manuel Guerra presented, together with the provincial delegate of Agriculture and the president of the Provincial Council, a fair that was born with the aim of giving "one more support for the commercial take-off of this sector", which together with rural tourism was "the basic pillar of the economy of the area".
Fourteen companies participated in that first edition, held over three days in a venue that soon became too small. The programme included technical conferences on the quality of Iberian pork, an exhibition of pig livestock and cooking and ham cutter competitions.
Since then, the fair has not stopped growing. In 2024 it was declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of Andalusia, a recognition that endorses its consolidation as one of the great gastronomic events of the Andalusian calendar.
🏛️ Who organises the Aracena Ham Fair?
The organisation is in the hands of the Aracena City Council, which each year coordinates a device in which different administrations and private entities participate.
The Huelva Provincial Council and the Regional Government of Andalusia, through their Departments of Tourism and Agriculture, are regular collaborators, together with the DOP Jabugo, the Asociación de Empresarios de Aracena, Incedeca, Caja Rural and Cruzcampo, among others.
The mayor of Aracena, Manuel Guerra, has been one of the key figures in the development of the fair since its beginnings, and has repeatedly highlighted the value of an event that "generates wealth for our territory" and that represents "an injection for sectors such as tourism, accommodation, restaurants and commerce". The involvement of private initiative, especially the Iberian sector companies, is another of the pillars that explain the success and continuity of the event.
🍖 The 2026 fair: the immediate precedent
To understand what the 2027 edition will be like, it is worth looking at the 2026 edition. The XXIX Fair was held on 16, 17 and 18 and 23, 24 and 25 October at the Recinto Ferial de la Avenida Reina de los Ángeles, next to the Gruta de las Maravillas. 17 Iberian sector companies participated in the Pabellón Ferial and 37 companies of other products and crafts in the adjoining tent.
The programme included classic activities such as the Ham Cutters Competition, tastings of the DOP Jabugo, demonstrations of traditional Iberian pork cutting and the popular draw "Su Peso en Jamón", in which the winner takes home as many hams as kilos he weighs on the scale. The 2026 Ham Gala distinguished Los Romeros de Jabugo SL with the Golden Ham and Francisco Casero with the Golden Acorn, and featured the exaltation of Canal Sur Radio presenter Pepe Da Rosa.
