FLORA 2026 in Córdoba

FLORA 2026 in Córdoba

FLORA 2026 turns Córdoba, from 12 to 22 October, into the world epicentre of contemporary floral art. Five artists from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, South Korea and Spain will create site-specific installations at the Palacio de la Merced, the Palacio de Viana, the Palacio de Orive, the Archaeological Museum and the Patio de los Naranjos of the Mosque-Cathedral. The works compete for prizes of 25,000 and 10,000 euros, the highest amounts in this discipline.

For The Sun Places, this event is a unique opportunity to offer our guests an experience that combines luxury, art and heritage. Our Luxury Apartments in Córdoba are the perfect starting point to experience this cultural milestone.

The festival is structured around various activities ranging from the most visual to the most reflective. The five installations, which are set up from 12 to 15 October, are exhibited to the public from 16 to 21 October in uninterrupted hours from 11:00 to 20:00, with free entry. In addition, FLORA 2026 offers a parallel programme that includes the absolute premiere of the show "La flor cantada" by Martirio at the C3A, the live recording of the podcast "Las hijas de Felipe" at the Convent of San Rafael, a lecture by psychiatrist Sue Stuart-Smith on the psychological benefits of nature, and the artistic action "Patios" by Maider López.

When is FLORA 2026?

FLORA 2026 is held from 12 to 22 October 2026. The calendar is structured in three phases: from 12 to 15 October the assembly of the installations and previous activities take place; from 16 to 21 October the exhibition opens to the public with the full programme of activities; and on 22 October it closes with the "Guerrilla FLORA", an ephemeral floral intervention in the Gardens of the Huerto de Orive. The installations can be visited from 11:00 to 20:00, with free and gratuous entry. For those seeking exclusivity, some activities require prior reservation, such as guided tours during the assembly and exhibition.

Where is FLORA 2026 located?

History of FLORA 2026

FLORA 2026 celebrates its ninth edition, consolidated as the most important contemporary floral art festival in the world. Born in 2017 as a cultural initiative of Zizai Cultura, the festival emerged with the aim of de-seasonalising tourism in Córdoba and positioning the city as the world capital of floral art in autumn.

In just eight editions, FLORA has accumulated almost one and a half million visits to its installations and has generated an economic impact of more than 16 million euros, with a return of 13.4 euros for every euro invested.

The theme of 2026, "Efímero" (Ephemeral), invites reflection on transience and change, an idea that connects directly with the perishable nature of flowers and with the festival's own experience. The festival director, María Van den Eynde, has announced that in 2027, coinciding with the tenth anniversary, there will be a special longer edition with more installations.

Who organises FLORA 2026?

This event is organised by Zizai Cultura, a private initiative that conceived the festival in 2016, in collaboration with the Córdoba City Council and the support of the Provincial Council. Artistic direction is in the hands of María Van den Eynde, who has led the festival since its beginnings.

The jury of this edition, responsible for selecting the winning works, is composed of Natalia Álvarez Simó (cultural manager), Óscar Fernández López (doctor in Art History) and Wagner Kreusch (Brazilian florist, winner of the first prize in 2025). The organisation has received proposals from up to 18 countries for the Patio Talento call, which demonstrates the international prestige of the festival.

What FLORA 2026 represents for Córdoba, Andalusia and The Sun Places

FLORA 2026 represents much more than a flower festival. For Córdoba, it is a tool for international projection and an economic engine that has transformed October into a month of high tourist demand, almost at the level of May with the Patios. For Andalusia, it is a platform to show the excellence of its heritage and its floral culture, with the Mosque-Cathedral and the Palacio de Viana as first-class settings.

For The Sun Places, it is a unique opportunity to offer our guests an experience that combines luxury, contemporary art and heritage. Our Luxury Apartment Rental in Córdoba are the perfect starting point to experience the festival, with a concierge service that includes reservations for guided tours, access to exclusive activities and private transport to the five courtyards.

The particularities of FLORA 2026: art, technology and reflection

The five installations of FLORA 2026 explore the concept of the ephemeral from very diverse perspectives. FLOVER NYC, a New York studio that has worked for Lady Gaga and Nike, presents at the Diputación a work that combines nature and technology with a robotic dog, exploring "what survives, what transforms and what begins again".

Hamish Powell, British artist, occupies the Palacio de Viana with "El murmullo", an installation that uses ice and palo flower to recreate the spontaneous movement of birds, in dialogue with the sound of the courtyard fountain. Mas Rasa, winner of Patio Talento, presents "Cataclismo" at the Palacio de Orive, a work that transforms day by day during the festival. Sohee Park, founder of Elle Travaille and collaborator of Rolls-Royce and Tiffany, intervenes in the Patio de los Naranjos with "Halcyon", a colourful work that dialogues with the water of the Fuente de Santa María.

And Taller Banegas, the only Spanish representative, presents "Interludio" at the Archaeological Museum, a reflection on time through dried chillies, chrysanthemums and coconut fibre. To complete the experience, you cannot fail to try other Cordoban classics such as Cordoban salmorejo, Cordoban flamenquín or olive oil from the Sierra de Córdoba.
