On this occasion, the focus is on the period of maximum splendour of the Tacita de Plata, spanning from the arrival of Columbus to the dawn of the 19th century. The Festival Cádiz Emporio del Orbe is not just a commemoration: it is an invitation to feel history first-hand.

The Festival is structured around two large-format stage productions, free and designed for all audiences. They are the culmination of a programme that combines historical rigour and entertainment.
🌍 "Puerta de un Nuevo Mundo" at Plaza de San Juan de Dios
The opening will take place on 11 September at Plaza de San Juan de Dios. Under the direction of local actor Fernando Cueto, the show "Puerta de un Nuevo Mundo" will recreate fundamental milestones of Cádiz history. Through a 360º format, attendees will be able to relive episodes such as the Anglo-Dutch assault of 1596, which motivated the construction of the defensive walls, and the departure of Christopher Columbus's second voyage from this port in 1493.
The proposal combines theatre, dance, flamenco, folklore and carnival, with the participation of renowned artists such as Manuel Tallafé and the choirs of Luis Rivero, Los Estudiantes and Nandi Migueles. A unique opportunity to understand how the city of Cádiz became the gateway to a new world.
🌎 "Utraque Unum" at Puertas de Tierra
The closing, scheduled for 19 September at Puertas de Tierra, will be titled "Utraque Unum. La unión de los cuatro continentes". Artistically directed by Pablo Fornell, this production will symbolise the city's connection with Europe, America, Africa and Asia, reflecting its role as a bridge between worlds. It will feature performances by singer Encarna Anillo and guitarist Carlos Cortés, among other artists.
Both shows will be free to access, although they will require prior reservation. The Festival Cádiz Emporio del Orbe thus seeks to bring history closer to all audiences, combining documentary rigour with the emotion of live performance.
🏛️ The Mercado del Orbe and the Conference Cycle
In addition to the large productions, the Festival Emporio del Orbe will deploy a broad agenda of free activities. Plaza de España will host the "Mercado del Orbe", a space that will recreate the commercial atmosphere of the era with craft and gastronomy stalls, theatrical reenactments and fire shows. An immersive experience that will transport visitors to the city's centuries of greatest splendour.
The conference cycle "Cádiz, Ciudad-Mundo" will bring together experts in history, heritage and commerce to analyse the city's role in the first globalisation. The talks will be held at the City Council and the Teatro del Títere La Tía Norica, with free entry until full capacity. An opportunity to delve into the legacy of a city that was the engine of the Atlantic economy.
🚶 Routes, Exhibitions and Activities for Everyone
The programme of the Festival Cádiz Emporio del Orbe includes themed guided routes, such as "Un viaje al Cádiz de Cristóbal Colón", which will tour the spaces linked to the Genoese navigator. Spaces normally closed to the public will also be opened, such as the Cuevas de María Moco, and temporary exhibitions can be visited at the Castillo de Santa Catalina and the Museo de las Cortes.
For family and young audiences, there will be treasure hunts, street theatre and a live illustration competition, "Viñetas de un nuevo mundo", which will be held on 12 September at Plaza de Mina. A way to bring history closer to new generations through art and play.
