El Faro de Cádiz, 60 Years of History, Flavour and Tradition in the Heart of the Viña Neighbourhood

🌊   There are restaurants that are much more than a place to eat. They are institutions, temples of gastronomy that hold the memory of a city. El Faro de Cádiz is one of them.

Since 1964, this emblematic establishment in the Viña neighbourhood has been illuminating Cádiz's cuisine with a proposal that combines tradition, quality produce and the know-how of three generations of the Córdoba family.

El Faro de Cádiz was born as a small tavern where simple, local cuisine was prepared, based on fried fish from the Bay and seafood stews.

At The Sun Places we want you to discover this unique corner of the Gaditanian capital. That's why we invite you to learn about the history, the dishes and the magic of El Faro de Cádiz, staying at our Luxury Apartments in Cádiz, located in the heart of the capital, near the Gran Teatro Falla, the Cádiz Cathedral and La Caleta Beach.

✨   El Faro de Cádiz is "an icon of Gaditanian seafood cuisine with over 60 years of history".

A place that has evolved without losing its roots, where "the sea, the orchard, the mountains or the vineyards make El Faro de Cádiz shine thanks to the province of Cádiz".

A gastronomic sanctuary where the produce of the land and the sea become art. Every visit to El Faro de Cádiz is a unique and unforgettable experience.

📜  History of El Faro de Cádiz: Three Generations of the Córdoba Family

The history of El Faro de Cádiz is the history of the Córdoba family. It all began in 1964, when Gonzalo Córdoba, aged 30 and with four children, decided to "take the plunge" and found his own restaurant.

He did so in the popular Viña neighbourhood, a place that at that time "was not, precisely, a paradise". "In those days, even cars didn't come… The first refrigerator in the neighbourhood was brought by me, and the first television too.

They told me I was crazy, but then everyone came here".

The origin of El Faro de Cádiz can be summed up in two words: hard work and perseverance. Gonzalo Córdoba, "the hallmark of Gaditanian gastronomy", was the soul of the restaurant for decades.

His legacy continues today in the hands of his children and grandchildren, who have known how to maintain the essence of the business while adapting it to the new times.

El Faro de Cádiz has witnessed the transformation of the city and has contributed to making Cádiz a top-level gastronomic reference.

In 2024, El Faro de Cádiz celebrated its 60th anniversary with a special event that brought together clients, friends and family.

A tribute to Gonzalo Córdoba and all those who have made it possible for the restaurant to remain "an icon of Gaditanian cuisine".

The celebration included a tasting menu that toured the most emblematic dishes of its history, a journey through six decades of flavour and tradition. El Faro de Cádiz continues to illuminate the city's gastronomy.
