🎨 The Seville Holy Week 2026 Poster: author and meaning
The Seville Holy Week 2026 Poster was officially presented last October 2025 at the headquarters of the Council of Brotherhoods, in an event that brought together numerous brotherhood members and authorities. The artist chosen by the institution presided over by Francisco Vélez was in charge of bringing this work to life, taking over from Virginia Saldaña and her Esperanza Macarena from the previous year.
The work represents a Holy Cross, a symbol that summarises centuries of art and faith. The cross, in this poster, is not just a liturgical element, but becomes the axis around which the entire composition revolves, inviting the viewer to contemplation and reflection. The albero (the special soil of the Seville bullring), melted wax and incense seem to impregnate the work, which connects directly with the deepest essence of the Seville Holy Week.
Who is the Artist who created the Seville Holy Week 2026 Poster?
Antoine Cas was born in Cádiz in 1969 and has a solid academic background and an outstanding career in the art world.
Education: He holds a Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, specialising in Painting, Conservation and Restoration. He also holds a Degree in Art History from the same university.
Artistic style: His work is characterised by an exhaustive study of colour, with a clean, frontal aesthetic. He himself has pointed to the American painter Mark Rothko as one of his main influences.
Career in the brotherhood and poster field: Antoine Cas has extensive experience in the poster art for brotherhoods and Andalusian celebrations. Some of his most outstanding works include:
- Poster for the Seville Spring Festivities (2024).
- Poster for the Holy Week of Cádiz (2022).
- Poster for the Holy Week of Huelva (2021).
- Poster for the Holy Week of Córdoba (2024).
- Covers for the programme "El Llamador" on Canal Sur Radio (2025).
- Veronica's Veil for the Hermandad del Valle (2022).
- Numerous posters for brotherhoods and towns such as Almonte (2006), San Roque, Utrera, El Viso del Alcor, among others.
🖼️What does the Seville Holy Week 2026 Poster look like?
The work created by Antoine Cas is entitled "The Holy Cross of Seville".
Dimensions: 180 x 120 cm and painted in (oil, acrylic, pastel and compressed charcoal) on raw linen. Its central figure: The Santísimo Cristo de las Misericordias, head of the Brotherhood of Santa Cruz.
Outstanding elements: Also appearing at the foot of the cross is the Magdalena del Buen Fin, a very beloved image in the city. A golden circular halo is superimposed on the cross, a symbol of eternity that connects with the nimbus recovered by the brotherhood. With an intense red background that, in the author's words, symbolises sacrifice, love, mercy and a life given.
The 2025 Seville Holy Week Poster was a little different but equally spectacular, although it was somewhat controversial because the work showed a crucified Christ, half-naked and with an "effeminate face" (as defined by his critics). This clashed head-on with the more traditional and conservative imagery to which the Sevillian brotherhood public is accustomed.

🏛️ The Council of Brotherhoods and the configuration of Holy Week
The Board of the Penitence Section of the General Council of Brotherhoods and Confraternities approved last January 14 the definitive configuration of Holy Week 2026. Consensus and unanimity have been sought among the brotherhoods for each day, achieving majority agreements in the configuration of the orders of passage and timetables.
For the calculation of passage times, the formula based on the count made in Holy Week 2025 has been applied, except on Holy Monday and Tuesday, where not all the brotherhoods completed the Station of Penitence.
