🚣 There are rivalries that are played in a stadium, but others are rowed on a river. The Seville-Betis Regatta is much more than a sports competition: it is the only day of the year when the passion between Nervionenses and Verdiblancos moves to the Guadalquivir, and the water becomes the stage of a battle of pride, tradition and neighbourhood.
This year, the rowing derby reaches its 60th edition, an anniversary that consolidates it as the oldest sporting event in the Andalusian capital, with roots dating back to 1960.
This year's poster, presented on 21 October at the headquarters of Proyecto Hombre Sevilla, in Triana, is the work of Curro Casillas and recreates an aerial view of the two boats arriving at the Triana Bridge, with monumental Seville in the background.
At The Sun Places, where luxury is defined by authenticity and memorable experiences, we want to invite you to discover the history, present and excitement of an event that beats with the heart of the city.
The Seville-Betis Regatta was born in 1960, the fruit of an idea by Miguel López Torrontegui backed by Miguel Muñoz. Since then, except for the parenthesis between 1963 and 1969, the eight-oared coxed boats representing Sevilla FC and Real Betis Balompié have kept alive a rivalry that has become one of the great sporting traditions of the city.
Throughout its 66 years of existence, the event has gone beyond the local sphere to achieve international projection, and its continuity places it among the oldest sporting events in the Seville calendar.
📅 When is the Seville-Betis Regatta 2026?
The 60th edition of the Seville-Betis Regatta will be held on Saturday 14 November 2026. The programme will begin at 10:15 with the aspirants and veterans races over 500 metres, followed by the absolute regattas over 6,000 metres. The competition will again be broadcast live by TVE through RTVEPlay and Teledeporte, as well as by Canal Sur on ATV and CanalSurMás.
📍 Where is the Seville-Betis Regatta 2026 located?
The setting is the Guadalquivir, with start at the San Jerónimo dock and finish in front of the San Telmo Bridge, next to the Torre del Oro. This finish format was recovered in the previous edition and is maintained for 2026, after structural problems at the Muelle de las Delicias advised against its use. The finish next to the Torre del Oro offers a more spectacular ending, with a greater presence of public and an unbeatable monumental setting.
🎨 The poster of the 60th edition: Curro Casillas and the arrival at the Triana Bridge
The poster of this edition, designed by Curro Casillas, presents a different style from recent editions. It recreates in an illustration an aerial view of the two eight-oared boats arriving at the Triana Bridge, from which hangs a Regatta banner, with the profile of monumental Seville in the background: the Cathedral, the Giralda, the Real Maestranza and the Torre del Oro. The presentation of the poster took place at the headquarters of Proyecto Hombre Sevilla, in Triana, an association to which the Regatta wants to give visibility this year in its charitable facet.
🚣 The passion that goes beyond football: a derby with history
The Seville-Betis Regatta is the only day of the year when the rivalry between the city's two teams is settled on the water. What in the stadium is passion for colours becomes, on the river, a demonstration of effort, technique and team spirit. The rowers who defend the Sevillista and Betic colours are not rowing professionals, but athletes from city clubs who for weeks prepare to represent their team in an event that transcends sport.
The recent history of the regatta is marked by emotion and alternation. In 2025, Sevilla broke a streak of fourteen consecutive victories by Betis that had lasted since 2011. The white-and-red boat, captained by Ignacio Muñoz, won in a memorable regatta, with comebacks and a heroic duel decided at the Chapina Curve. With that triumph, the historic men's record stood at 31-28 in favour of Sevilla. In the women's category, the dominance is verdiblanco, with a balance of 21-15 and eight consecutive victories by the Heliopolitanas.
For 2026, expectations are at their highest. Betis, being an even year, will choose the starting lane, and both teams keep their captains: Ignacio Muñoz for Sevilla and Tomás Jurado for Betis. The crews will begin training on 25 October, after the rowing machine tests carried out individually at each club.
