The Barcelona-Catalunya Formula 1 Grand Prix

🏎️ The Barcelona-Catalunya Formula 1 Grand Prix 2026: the history continues in Montmeló

The Barcelona-Catalunya Formula 1 Grand Prix marks a milestone in 2026. This year, for the first time in more than three decades, the race that for so many years was the Spanish Grand Prix adopts a new name and a new role, while the country hosts two World Championship events.

The alternations and rotations coming to the calendar make this edition an unrepeatable event, a farewell to the traditional format and the birth of a new concept for the competition.

At The Sun Places we tell you everything you need to know to experience this unique event with maximum comfort.

What is different about this edition of the Barcelona-Catalunya Formula 1 Grand Prix?

⚙️ What makes it different this year? A change of name and status

Until 2025, this race was known as the Spanish Grand Prix. In 2026, the change is radical. The event has been officially renamed The Barcelona-Catalunya Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Furthermore, from 2026 onwards, it will not be held every year. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has signed a new agreement with F1 to host races in 2028, 2030 and 2032, alternating with the legendary Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

🧑‍💻 Organisation and future of the Barcelona-Catalunya Formula 1 Grand Prix

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a facility owned by Circuits de Catalunya SL, which is owned by the Government of Catalonia, Montmeló City Council and the RACC.

The organisation of the Grands Prix has been the responsibility of Fira Circuit, a company owned by Fira de Barcelona, since 1 January 2025. This public-private governance model ensures the stability and future of the circuit.

🏆 The future of Montmeló in F1

The renewal agreement with Formula 1 guarantees Barcelona's presence on the world calendar until 2032. This continuity has been supported by significant institutional backing, with planned investments to modernise the facilities and ensure that the Catalan circuit continues to be a benchmark in the championship.
