The author of the 2026 Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races Poster: Mariló Rivera
The 2026 Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races Poster is the work of Mariló Rivera, a Seville-based painter with a strong use of colour, trained by renowned masters.
Her work captures landscapes and traditions of Sanlúcar and Seville, and she has been linked to Sanlúcar de Barrameda for decades, where she has her second residence.
This personal connection with the city allows her to capture in her works a perspective that knows well the light and essence of Sanlúcar.
The choice of Mariló Rivera to create the 2026 poster reinforces the artistic bond between Seville and Sanlúcar, two cities united by the Guadalquivir River and by an equestrian tradition that transcends borders.
2026 Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races Poster: a sweeping gallop of colour and movement
Mariló Rivera's work for the 2026 Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races Poster is done in acrylics on canvas.
In it, the artist places the observer from an unusual angle, showing the imminent arrival of the horses galloping on the natural racetrack of the beach sand.
The result is a sweeping image full of colour and movement, which gives the scene a compelling expectation and an active risk that invites you not to miss that moment.
The poster captures the essence of the races: speed, emotion and the beauty of the horses galloping by the sea, with the afternoon light and wet sand as witnesses.

A brief history of the Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races
The Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races are the oldest horse racing competition in Spain. Their origin dates back to 1845, when a group of horse owners, who used these animals to transport fish from the old port of Bajo de Guía to local markets, began to organise informal competitions.
On 20 September 1845, the Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Racing Society was founded, and the first official races were held on 31 August 1845 on the city's beaches. Since then, the races have been held annually, becoming a reference event in the Spanish equestrian calendar.
They are declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest and have received the Gold Medal of Andalusia. In 2026, the 181st edition will be held, consolidating more than a century and a half of tradition.
When are the 2026 Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races?
The 2026 Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races will be held in two cycles, as is traditional, on Las Piletas beach. The confirmed dates are:
- First cycle: 8, 9 and 10 August 2026.
- Second cycle: 21, 22 and 23 August 2026.
In total, 26 races will be held (12 in the first cycle and 14 in the second), one more than the previous year. The budget for this edition exceeds one million one hundred thousand euros, with more than two hundred thousand euros allocated to prizes.
Among the major prizes are those of the Diputación de Cádiz, Andalusia and the City of Sanlúcar.
Differences from previous editions of the Announcing Poster
Each year, the Sanlúcar de Barrameda Horse Races Poster is a unique work commissioned from a renowned artist.
The 2026 poster, by Mariló Rivera, is distinguished by its frontal and dynamic perspective, which places the viewer right in the path of the galloping horses.
Unlike other posters that show a more panoramic or static view, Rivera's work captures the moment of maximum tension and speed, inviting the viewer to feel the excitement of the race.
In addition, the use of acrylics on canvas and the vibrant colours are the author's hallmarks, who has managed to capture the light and atmosphere of Sanlúcar in her work.
