Seville Opera Festival, a festival that resonates in its Monuments

The Seville Opera Festival 2025: THE SUN PLACES joins this cultural celebration of the Seville Opera Festival, offering its guests a complete experience: luxury accommodation and privileged access to a festival designed to discover the city's most emblematic buildings.

Because there is no better way to experience opera than with maximum comfort, in the heart of Seville and with all your senses focused on the magic of the lyric.

🗓️When and where is the Seville Opera Festival 2025 held?

The Seville Opera Festival 2025 will take place from 25 September to 12 October 2025 in seven heritage spaces in the city: the Royal Artillery Factory, the Real Alcázar, the Espacio Turina, the Teatro de la Maestranza and the palace houses: Palacio de las Dueñas, Casa Salinas and the Hospital de la Caridad.

Who organises the Seville Opera Festival 2025?

Organised by Seville City Council, through the area of Tourism and Culture, this event is intended to be held every two years, turning the city into the international capital of opera.

Its artistic director is Francisco Soriano (Curro Soriano), professor of vocal repertoire at the Manuel Castillo Conservatory of Music and one of the most active figures in the recovery of forgotten titles of salon opera.

📜 Three master axes connecting past, present and future

Under the artistic direction of Francisco Soriano, the festival is structured around three master axes:

  • A dialogue of anniversaries: Simultaneously commemorating the 250th anniversary of the birth of the Sevillian composer Manuel García and the 150th anniversary of the premiere of Bizet's universal 'Carmen'. Manuel García, one of the great forgotten figures in music history, returns to his hometown with his comic opera Il Califfo di Bagdad, a jewel written in 1806 that combines the charm of opéra comique with the playful spirit of opera buffa.
  • The eternal myth of Don Juan: Exploring the figure of the Sevillian transgressor who conquered stages all over the world. The programme includes a majestic production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, featuring two casts headed by Alessio Arduini and Jan Antem, and the chamber opera Don Juan no existe by Helena Cánovas, a contemporary revision of the myth.
  • Living opera: A commitment to opera as a total art, in connection with dance, poetry and other contemporary expressions. The Royal Artillery Factory becomes the epicentre of this avant-garde, hosting Philip Glass's Les Enfants Terribles, a work that transforms the space into a scenic laboratory where voice, dance and piano coexist.

🗺️Where to see the Seville Opera Festival?

The true magic of this festival lies in its location. Attending a performance becomes a complete sensory experience where music blends with heritage:

  • Real Alcázar: Manuel García's Il Califfo di Bagdad will resonate among its gardens and palaces, with two performances on 26 and 27 September at 10:00 p.m.
  • Royal Artillery Factory: It will host avant-garde proposals such as Philip Glass's Les Enfants Terribles (25 September, 2 and 5 October), Monteverdi's Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda (1 and 3 October) and the contemporary revision of the Don Juan myth in Don Juan no existe (7 and 9 October).
  • Teatro de la Maestranza: The premier lyric venue will present a majestic production of Mozart's Don Giovanni on 4, 8, 10 and 11 October at 8:00 p.m. and on 12 October at 6:00 p.m.
  • Palacio de las Dueñas, Casa Salinas and Hospital de la Caridad: They will offer a unique opportunity: to enjoy another opera by Manuel García, Quien porfía mucho alcanza, in the intimacy and grandeur of its halls on 28, 29 and 30 September respectively.
  • Espacio Turina: It will be the venue for intimate recitals and crossover proposals, such as the recital by mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux (28 September), the jazz quintet Groovin' Carmen (30 September) or the countertenor recital by Franco Fagioli (6 October).

🎭 The poster of the Seville Opera Festival

The presentation of the Seville Opera Festival also brought its own artistic jewel: the official poster for this edition, a creation of the renowned artist from Jerez, Ana Barriga.

With her characteristic colourful style full of pop echoes, Barriga has conceived a work that goes beyond simple illustration. The artist describes it as a "conceptual map" where opera is personified in a female figure, full of subtle nods and symbols that represent "all the roles an actor can play".

In essence, the poster is a vibrant reflection on opera as a mirror of life itself, a large-scale role-playing game of emotions.

🌟What does the Opera Festival represent for Seville and for THE SUN PLACES?

For Seville, this festival represents the consolidation of the city as the international capital of opera, a project with which it wants to "take opera out of the theatres, bring it to the streets and share it with locals and visitors in such unique heritage settings". It is an opportunity to rediscover the city through the emotion of opera, creating memories that will last long after the final chord.

For THE SUN PLACES, this festival is the perfect excuse to invite its guests to experience Seville as they never imagined: staying in the heart of the city, with all the luxury and comfort they deserve, and enjoying privileged access to a programme that weaves together Seville's historical richness with the best music.
