Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma: The gastronomic universe with two Michelin stars in Jerez

🍽️  At The Sun Places, we invite you to discover one of the best-kept secrets of Andalusian gastronomy.

Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma, in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera, is a place where haute cuisine becomes emotion, where each dish tells a story and where the Andalusian duende shakes hands with French precision.

And for your experience to be perfect, there's nothing like staying with us in our Luxury Apartments in Cádiz, from where you can easily access this gastronomic gem and the charms of the city of wine and horses.

Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma is the dream come true of Juanlu Fernández, a chef from Jerez who decided to return to his roots to create his own project to express his understanding of gastronomy. The restaurant opened its doors in 2017 at number 2 Zaragoza Street, in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera.

What began as a small adventure has today become an international benchmark, recognised with the highest distinction: two Michelin Stars and two Repsol Suns.

👨‍🍳Juanlu Fernández: The chef who conquered the world from Jerez for Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma

Juanlu Fernández's story is that of a passionate person who started from the bottom. Born in Jerez in 1984, he grew up watching his grandmother cook traditional Andalusian recipes and surrounded by the famous wines and vinegars of Jerez.

At 13, while studying, he began working in a bakery and then in a pastry shop, where he began to come into contact with the ingredients that would be the fundamental basis of his training.

His big step was joining Martín Berasategui's team at his 3-Michelin-star restaurant, Lasarte, where he learned technique, precision and the workings of a haute cuisine restaurant.

Later, at 23, he became a fundamental pillar of Aponiente, Ángel León's restaurant, where he worked for ten years and helped achieve 3 Repsol Suns and 3 Michelin Stars.

In 2017, at the age of 33, he decided to go his own way and opened Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma in his native Jerez, a place to express his personality and his limitless love of cooking.

🍽️The gastronomic experience at Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma

The offering at Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma is unique. Juanlu Fernández defines his style as 'rear avant-garde', an expression that highlights his personal interpretation and a "crazy" point of cooking based on classical French cuisine, but showing the best of Andalusian ingredients.

In his restaurant, designed by architect Jean Porsche, the dining room has direct views of the kitchen, and the team cooks and serves before the client's eyes in a concept they call "Chef's Table".

The experience is structured around two tasting menus: Duxende, the soul of the restaurant, with 9 courses, and Duxo, a longer journey through the senses, with 12 courses, which allows you to discover the history and recipes of the region.

The wine cellar, with more than 600 wines and sherries, many from wineries that no longer exist, is another of the house's great attractions.

🍴 Some dishes you cannot miss at Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma

Among the most acclaimed dishes by critics are Choco a la cochambrosa (cuttlefish slowly cooked with its own viscera) and Seafood with peas, two preparations that were described as "a superior cut" for their delicacy and depth of flavour.

Also noteworthy are the sea bass, the yellow-style whiting, the scallops with cured yolk and stew, and the Iberian pork royale finale.

⭐ Juanlu Fernández's gastronomic world: Bina Bar and Krombol, beyond Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma

Juanlu Fernández's commitment to Jerez gastronomy goes beyond Restaurante Lú, Cocina y Alma. The chef has surrounded himself with collaborators and created a small culinary empire in the city.

Bina Bar, located on José Cádiz Salvatierra Street, is the chef's most laid-back space.

Reopened in 2025 after a major renovation, it offers what he himself calls "Andalusian scoundrel cuisine", a place to share traditional dishes with family and friends in an informal atmosphere.

His good table is such that in 2026 it has been incorporated into the prestigious Michelin Guide, establishing itself as a recommended restaurant where you can taste everything from a Huelva prawn salad to a tuna mollete with the quality seal of a two-star.

Krombol Bakery, on the same street as its younger sibling, is his sweetest project. Hand in hand with Dolce Nilda, a Colombian pastry chef and Juanlu's partner, this space has become a benchmark in Jerez for those looking for a good breakfast or artisan snack.

They offer a wide range of sweet and savoury products, all made on site, from croissants and crumbles to toast and brioches, accompanied by the best specialty coffee.
