The ownership of the park falls to Parque Isla Mágica S.A. Since the arrival of Looping as majority shareholder, the park has experienced a notable recovery and modernisation.

📜 A brief history: from the legacy of Expo'92 to the current magic

The history of Isla Mágica de Sevilla is, in essence, the history of the intelligent use of the legacy of the 1992 Universal Exhibition. Expo'92, which was held under the motto "The Age of Discoveries", was a colossal event that forever transformed Seville. It occupied 215 hectares on the Isla de la Cartuja, received 41.8 million visits and had the participation of 108 countries.

The first attempt: Parque de los Descubrimientos

After the closure of the Expo, the company Cartuja 93 proposed the idea of reusing the area of the Lago de España, where the pavilions of the autonomous communities had been located, to create a theme park. Thus was born, in June 1993, the Parque de los Descubrimientos, a site that in its first 156 days of opening received 3,348,303 visits. However, the public soon stopped renewing their season tickets and the initial project ran out.

The rebirth of an icon: Isla Mágica is born

It was then that a group of shareholders decided to reinvent the space. Nearly 15,000 million pesetas (about 90 million euros) were invested in redesigning and building a new theme park, smaller but much more specialised and focused on attractions.

The result was Isla Mágica de Sevilla, inaugurated on 28 June 1997 by H.M. King Don Juan Carlos I. The park opened its doors with a meticulous design that included 42,000 square metres of water surface, 55,000 square metres of gardens, more than 400 palm trees and more than 6,000 decorative objects recreating rocks, walls and ancient buildings.
