🎷 When autumn arrives in Barcelona, the city fills with swing, blue notes and nights that seem taken from a film. The Barcelona Jazz Festival celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026, a commemorative three-year period that begins with an edition packed with international stars and historic moments.
From 12 October, with the moving tribute to Tete Montoliu and Bebo Valdés at Park Güell, to December, with concerts at the Palau de la Música and the Liceu, the festival turns Barcelona into a unique stage where jazz merges with modernism, the sea and gastronomy.
At The Sun Places, we know that there are experiences that define a trip. A jazz night in a modernist palace, with a glass of cava in hand and the sound of a saxophone resonating among mosaics, is one of them.
✨ The Barcelona Jazz Festival was born in 1966, when pianist Dave Brubeck inaugurated the first edition at the Palau de la Música Catalana. Since then, legends such as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Sonny Rollins and Wayne Shorter have graced its stages.
In 2026, the festival turns 60 and celebrates it with a commemorative three-year period (2026-2028) that begins with this 58th edition, presented at the Palau de la Música Catalana and running from April to 23 December. All official information, tickets and full programme are available at jazz.barcelona.
The organisation is handled by TheProject, with Voll-Damm as main sponsor. The programme includes more than 70 concerts in 11 venues across the city, with more than 600 musicians, most of them Catalan.
📅 When is the Barcelona Jazz Festival?
The Barcelona Jazz Festival 2026 runs from April to 23 December 2026, although the autumn season concentrates the most outstanding concerts.
The central day of the autumn season will be 12 October, with the tribute concert "Blues for Tete & Bebo" at Park Güell, a free event for local residents and with access by invitation.
The months of October, November and December concentrate most of the programme, with concerts almost every night at different venues across the city. To check the full programme by venue and dates, visit the official Barcelona Jazz Festival website.
📍 Where is the Barcelona Jazz Festival held?
The festival unfolds across some of Barcelona's most emblematic spaces. The main venues include:
- Palau de la Música Catalana: The historic venue of the festival, where the most special concerts are held. Its modernist hall, with the inverted glass dome, is a unique stage in the world
- Park Güell: The great novelty of 2026. On 12 October, Plaça de la Natura will host the tribute to Tete Montoliu and Bebo Valdés, with panoramic views of Barcelona
- L'Auditori: Venue for symphonic concerts and special projects, such as Brad Mehldau with the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona
- Gran Teatre del Liceu: Barcelona's opera temple also hosts jazz concerts, such as the debut of Vicente Amigo
- Sala Jamboree: Barcelona's most legendary jazz club, with intimate concerts until the early hours of the morning.
From our Luxury Apartments in Barcelona, located on Passeig de Gràcia or the Eixample, you can reach any of these venues on foot or in a short taxi ride.
📜 History of the Barcelona Jazz Festival
The history of the Barcelona Jazz Festival is the history of a city that fell in love with jazz. In 1966, in the midst of the dictatorship, a group of enthusiasts organised the first edition with Dave Brubeck as headliner. It was an act of cultural bravery at a time when jazz was viewed with suspicion by the regime.
Since then, the festival has grown to become one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe. Its stages have hosted Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Diana Krall, Wynton Marsalis and practically all the legends of the genre.
In 2008, the festival created the Gold Medal, an award recognising figures who have left an indelible mark on the event. The first to receive it was Bebo Valdés, and since then it has been awarded to Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Maria Schneider, Diana Krall and Wynton Marsalis, among others.
In 2026, coinciding with the 60th anniversary, the Gold Medal will be awarded posthumously to Tete Montoliu, one of the fundamental artists in the history of jazz and already present at the first edition of the festival. In addition, exceptionally, this year a second Gold Medal will be awarded to the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, which celebrates its 20th anniversary and is the protagonist of the Retrat d'Artista of this edition.
🎷 The must-see concerts of the Barcelona Jazz Festival 2026
