Artillera Sevilla Cycle 2026: Dance and Music at the Royal Artillery Factory

🎭  At The Sun Places we love to be surprised by different cultural proposals, and the Artillera Sevilla Cycle 2026 is the perfect definition of that.

Driven by the Seville City Council through the Institute of Culture and Arts (ICAS), this new programme positions the city as a reference for contemporary artistic creation, exhibition and research in southern Europe.

And to enjoy a complete cultural experience, nothing beats staying with us in our Luxury Apartments in Seville.

The Artillera Sevilla Cycle 2026 was born with a clear vocation: to take the pulse of contemporary live arts by bringing together creators from different disciplines — dance, music, performance, sound arts and experimental creation — with special attention to the Seville and Andalusian scene.

Produced by David Linde (LaSUITE), the cycle combines absolute premieres, projects conceived specifically for the Royal Artillery Factory, shows never before presented in Seville and the recovery of works of great relevance in the recent contemporary scene, establishing a constant dialogue between memory and creative future.

📜 What is the Artillera Sevilla Cycle 2026? A new cultural reference

The Artillera Sevilla Cycle 2026 is not just a festival. It is a firm commitment to quality contemporary culture, highlighting the talent generated in Seville and its ability to dialogue with the most relevant creative currents on the national scene.

The cycle connects the local with the global, the experimental with the emotional, the scenic with the sonic, offering a cultural experience that invites you to look, listen and feel in a different way.

One of the great assets of the Artillera Sevilla Cycle 2026 is the participation of two National Dance Awards, Rocío Molina and Guillermo Weickert, who will present projects created exclusively for the cycle, reinforcing its unique character.

In addition to the performing arts programme, the cycle includes workshops and meetings open to the public, conceived as spaces for mediation and approaching creative processes.

🏛️  Royal Artillery Factory: History of a unique space

To understand the greatness of the Artillera Sevilla Cycle 2026, you first need to know the stage that hosts it: the Royal Artillery Factory of Seville. This impressive industrial complex, located in the San Bernardo neighbourhood, has a history dating back more than 450 years.

The origins of the factory date back to 1565, when the Morel family established a small bronze foundry workshop in the area.

In 1634, the facility became state property, beginning a period of great productivity thanks to trade with the Indies and army orders.

The current building began to be built in the first third of the 18th century, receiving a strong boost during the reign of Charles III, who in 1782 ordered its expansion.

In the 18th century, the Royal Artillery Factory was the largest in Spain. More than 16,000 cannons were cast in its workshops, making it one of the country's main arms production centres.

The factory ceased its activity in 1991, and its machinery and tools were transferred to other locations.

Fortunately, this industrial heritage did not fall into oblivion. In 2018, the European Union financed the rehabilitation of the space with 20 million euros for its use as a cultural centre, and the first exhibition was inaugurated in 2024.

Today, the Royal Artillery Factory is a multidisciplinary space that hosts exhibitions, concerts and, of course, the Artillera Sevilla Cycle 2026.

Its industrial architecture, with underground passageways and recovered ancient smelting furnaces, offers an unparalleled setting for the live arts. If you want to continue exploring Seville's heritage, we recommend reading about The Torre del Oro and its fascinating history.
