🏛️ Just a few weeks have passed since the lights went out at the Real de la April Fair 2026, but Seville is already looking ahead to 2027.
The reason is the April Fair 2027 Poster, which was presented this Wednesday in the Salón Colón at Seville City Hall. Titled 'Gateway to Dreams 1927', the design is the work of Seville-born Hugo Montalbán Ramos, who also won the cover competition in 2017.
The work pays tribute to two fundamental milestones in the city's cultural history: the Morocco Pavilion from the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition and the Cortijo de Pino Montano, owned by the bullfighter Ignacio Sánchez Mejías and the birthplace of the Generation of '27.
At The Sun Places, where luxury is defined by authenticity and memorable experiences, we want to invite you to discover the secrets of this unique cover and to experience the April Fair 2027 with the exclusivity you deserve.
Stay with us in our Luxury Apartments in Seville and witness one of the most special Fairs of the century.
The April Fair 2027 Poster has arrived with a historic advance. Traditionally, the Fair's cover is presented in September, but the City Council wanted to bring the date forward to June to kick off the commemoration of the centenary of the Generation of '27.
The councillor for Major Festivities, Manuel Alés, has described this event as the "first major municipal act" linked to this anniversary. The cover, which will be 50 metres wide, 40 metres high and 6 metres deep, will become the gateway to the Fairground.
🖌️ Who is the author of the April Fair 2027 Poster?
The April Fair 2027 Poster is the work of Hugo Montalbán Ramos, a technical architect and designer from Seville, born in 1982.
Montalbán already has a precedent in Fair cover design, as he was the winner of the competition in 2017 with a design titled 'Sevilla Cultura Universal', which paid tribute to the kilns of the Cartuja monastery, Expo 92 and the Murillo Year.
In addition to his two Fair covers, he has won first prize in the Velá de Bellavista poster. In his professional career,
Montalbán is a technician specialising in urban planning projects and BIM modelling, but his passion for design and the history of Seville has led him to become one of the most recognised creators in the construction of the city's contemporary festive image.
Regarding his work for 2027, the author has pointed out that the cover was born from the encounter between architecture, poetry and history, taking as a reference two enclaves deeply linked to Seville's cultural heritage.
🏛️ The two pillars of the April Fair 2027 Poster
The April Fair 2027 Poster is built on two fundamental pillars that dialogue with each other:
- The Morocco Pavilion from the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition: This building, constructed for the Ibero-American Exhibition hosted by Seville, is one of the greatest examples of Sevillian regionalism and the city's Mudejar heritage. The cover reproduces characteristic architectural elements of the pavilion, such as its main door, ornamental arches, latticework and Hispano-Moroccan-inspired mosaics.
- The Cortijo de Pino Montano: This estate, owned by the bullfighter and writer Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, was the meeting place for the poets of the Generation of '27. Some of the most important friendships and literary creations of the 20th century were forged there. The cover incorporates details from the cortijo, such as its windows and the cast-iron door, alluding to the cultural and literary legacy of this movement.
🎨 Design and colour palette of the April Fair 2027 Poster
The April Fair 2027 Poster stands out for its colour palette that evokes the light and tradition of Seville. White is the predominant element, accompanied by a rich range of tones:
- Greens: evoking the roofs of the Morocco Pavilion.
- Blues and turquoises: inspired by the pavilion's tiles, "which remind us both of Seville's sky and the depth of the night".
- Albero: a plinth in this colour visually connects with the soil of the Fairground and Sevillian identity.
- Yellows and golds: crown the work, making the stars shine in a night sky that evokes the meeting and creative space that the Cortijo de Pino Montano was for the Generation of '27.
The composition is organised around three large access arches, presided over by a reinterpretation of the main door of the Morocco Pavilion. The central arch revives the ornamental richness of the original building, while the side entrances pay homage to the freshness of its fountains. Two imposing towers flank the ensemble, breathing the essence of the pavilion's minaret.
⭐ The symbolism of the April Fair 2027 Poster
The April Fair 2027 Poster is much more than an architectural design; it is a symbol loaded with meaning. The presence of stars at various points in the composition symbolises imagination, dreams and artistic creation, seeking to evoke the intellectual atmosphere that surrounded the writers of '27.
As Montalbán himself has explained: "The cover is ephemeral, yes, but that is where its greatness lies.
Although it is destined to disappear, it always remains in the memory of those who cross it, as happens with poetry, dreams and the most beautiful moments of our lives. From there comes the motto: Gateway to Dreams 1927".
🔄 April Fair 2027 Poster vs. 2026: key differences
To better understand the evolution of the cover, it is worth comparing the April Fair 2027 Poster with that of the previous year, which was inspired by the Portugal Pavilion and the Carlos V Pavilion in the Royal Alcázar.
While the April Fair 2026 Cover looked towards the imperial past and the grandeur of the House of Austria, the April Fair 2027 Poster looks towards the literary and cultural past, specifically to one of the brightest moments in Spanish literature. The changes are notable in several aspects:
- Architectural inspiration: The 2026 cover was based on the Portugal Pavilion from Expo 29 and the Carlos V Pavilion, a nod to the 500th anniversary of the marriage between Charles V and Isabella of Portugal. The 2027 cover is inspired by the Morocco Pavilion and the Cortijo de Pino Montano, linked to the Generation of '27
- Author: In 2026 the design was by Italian architect Davide Gambini. In 2027 it is by Seville-born Hugo Montalbán Ramos, a creator closely linked to the city and its history
- Symbolism: The 2026 cover focused on the figure of the Emperor and his marriage to Portugal. The 2027 one, with its motto "Gateway to Dreams 1927" and the presence of stars, evokes the imagination and intellectual atmosphere of the poets of '27
- Colour palette: While 2026 opted for more imperial tones (golds, reds and ochres), 2027 opts for whites, greens, blues and turquoises, more luminous and poetic
📅 When is the April Fair 2027 and how is it experienced?
The April Fair 2027 will be held from 12 to 18 April 2027, with the traditional "pescaíto" dinner kicking things off. The April Fair 2027 Poster, with its 50 metres wide and 40 metres high, will be the gateway to a Fairground that in 2027 will feature important new developments.
The expansion works of the fairground will add 220 new booths, making the 2027 Fair the largest in history. In addition, the City Council has announced new measures to regulate music hours, prohibiting the switching off of lights and keeping sevillanas playing until a specific time to preserve tradition.
