The Teatro Lope de Vega, originally known as the Teatro de la Exposición, was built for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929.
Designed by the Valencian architect Vicente Traver, successor to Aníbal González as the Exposition's director architect, the building was inspired by Andalusian Baroque and formed part of the Seville Pavilion, along with the Casino de la Exposición.
After the exhibition ended, in April 1936, it was renamed the Teatro Municipal Lope de Vega, abandoning its original name.
Since then, it has been the stage for the city's major cultural events, from concerts by the London Philharmonic Orchestra to the most emblematic shows of the Bienal de Flamenco.
📅 When does the Teatro Lope de Vega reopen?
The Teatro Lope de Vega will reopen its doors on 11 September 2026. The theatre had remained closed since 2023 for refurbishment works that have included the installation of a new fire curtain, a stage lift and structural improvements necessary to guarantee the safety and comfort of the public.
The reopening coincides with the XXIV Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla, which takes place from 9 September to 3 October. On 12 September, pianist Dorantes will inaugurate the newly restored theatre with the world premiere of his new show, "Fractal Arcano".

The Teatro Lope de Vega is located in the heart of Seville, on Calle Exposición, next to the Casino de la Exposición. - 29 September: David Coria presents the national premiere of "Babel. Torre Viva".
- 30 September: Mayte Martín presents "Arqueología de lo puro".
- 2 October: Alfonso Losa presents his new creation (world premiere).
