🇪🇸Spanish riders: the armada that wants to reign in Montmeló
The Spanish armada will arrive in Montmeló after their first big home battle in Jerez, ready to take on championship leader Marco Bezzecchi. The national contingent is led by two legends and a young prospect.
- Marc Márquez (Cervera, Lleida, 17 February 1993) is, without question, one of the best riders in history. His track record includes 9 world titles: one in 125cc (2010), one in Moto2 (2012) and seven in MotoGP (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2025). Since 2025 he is part of the official Ducati Lenovo Team, after having ridden for Honda since his debut in the premier class in 2013
- His brother Álex Márquez (Cervera, 23 April 1996) also has two world titles: Moto3 champion in 2014 and Moto2 champion in 2019. He competes with the satellite team BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP and, like his brother, rides a Ducati. Both made history by becoming the first pair of brothers to win world titles in the same year, first in 2014 and then in 2019
- The great hope of the public will be Pedro Acosta (in the Cover Photo), known as "El Tiburón de Mazarrón". Born on 25 May 2004 in Puerto de Mazarrón, Murcia, he was Moto3 champion in 2021 and Moto2 champion in 2023, adding two world titles in the lower categories. He currently races for the official Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team with number 37
- In 2026, his season started with a victory in the sprint race in Thailand, and he arrives in Montmeló with the intention of achieving his first victory in a long MotoGP race. Bezzecchi's initial superiority, with a clean sweep of victories, has put the entire Spanish garage on alert, who will seek a forceful response on home turf
🏁 Comparison: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya vs Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto
Both Jerez and Barcelona are two temples of Spanish motorcycling, but their personalities are very different.
The Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto is a sinuous and technical 4.42 km layout, with a surface that punishes tyres and a relatively short finish straight. Overtaking there is a slow-burning affair, linking slow and medium-speed corners where surgical lines are paramount.
In contrast, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, at 4.657 km, is a power circuit where top speed and braking are brutal. The passage through the legendary turns 3 and 10 requires total confidence in the front end, and its long straight provides the perfect stage for slipstream battles.
While Jerez enjoys a more "monastic" and traditional atmosphere, Montmeló benefits from its proximity to the capital to offer a complete leisure and luxury experience beyond the asphalt.
Both are fan favourites, but if Jerez is the cradle of passion, Barcelona is the ultimate expression of speed and modernity.
📜 History of the Catalonia Motorcycle Grand Prix
The history of this Grand Prix dates back to 1992, when the MotoGP World Championship arrived for the first time at the newly opened Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. American Wayne Rainey won the first two editions (1992 and 1993).
The great historical dominators of this track are Valentino Rossi, with 7 wins in the premier class, and Jorge Lorenzo, with 5.
Among current riders, Marc Márquez has won in 2014 and 2019. The 2025 edition was a turning point, marked by Ducati's clear dominance, which left the rest of the field with a bitter taste. That year, the Márquez brothers staged a thrilling duel that ended with Álex's victory, his first triumph in the category.
The layout, originally designed with 14 corners, remains a favourite among riders for its fluidity.
🏛️Who organises the Catalonia Motorcycle Grand Prix 2026?
The Catalonia Motorcycle Grand Prix 2026 is organised by the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in collaboration with Dorna Sports, the organiser of the MotoGP World Championship.
The event is made possible thanks to the support of the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council and the RACC. The previous edition featured musical performances by bands such as El Último de la Fila and a star appearance by Superbike world champion rider Toprak Razgatlioglu, who shared the track with the championship's top riders in special practice sessions.
